Synopsis of Slitting Line Drives and Controls Project
- Situation: A stainless steel processing company in China contracted a globally recognized OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for the supply of a complete slitting line. The line was made to process stainless steel. Line specifications included line speed variation at 0 to 150 mpm (meters per minute) and maximum shear strength at 600+MPa (Megapascals), which is equivalent to the water pressure used in water jet cutters used for cutting metal and concrete. Strip dimensions: Maximum width at entry – 1400 mm (approx. 55”); minimum width at entry – 200 mm (approx. 7”); maximum width at exit – 1350 mm (approx. 53”); minimum width at exit – 25 mm (approx. 1”); maximum thickness – 3mm (approx. 0.11”);
minimum thickness – 0.25mm (0.009”).
- Issue: Optimizing operations of the new slitting line with drives and controls automation.
- Technology: Siemens Regenerative Rectifier Unit, Siemens Simovert Masterdrive VC drives, Profibus DP Network, Siemens ET 200M distributed I/O, Industrial Ethernet, Siemens S7 PLC, Siemens WinCC.
