Synopsis of Air Knife System Level 1 Controls Project

  • Situation: The largest producer of steel in the USA purchased an Air Knife/Coating Weight Control System from a global leading OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for application in a newly constructed processing facility.
  • Customer Objectives: Long-term reliability with minimal maintenance costs over the long term, and quick and cost-effective add-ons going forward to accommodate on-going growth initiatives.
  • Requirement: A Level 1 Controls System.
  • Technology: GE PAC Systems Rx3i processor (Proficy Machine Edition code), GE Panel QuickPanel View, power distribution transformers, 24 VDC power supplies, circuit breakers, miniature circuit breakers, contactors, relays, terminals, remote I/O rack, Profibus.
Air Knife System Level 1 Controls Project
  • Brock Solutions' Role: Design, build/develop, and implement the Level 1 controls. Specific work tasks included building a Main Control Cabinet, building Operator Side and Drives Side Terminal Boxes, building a Maintenance Panel, supplying a Pulpit Operator PC to serve as the main HMI (Human Machine Interface), supplying a Local Operator Station, supplying and installing all required hardware components, programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and designing/developing operator interface screens.
