AIR CANADA MAKES CHECK IN FAST AND EASY FOR CUSTOMERS AND THEIR BAGS;
RECEIVES UK DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT APPROVAL
SETTING NEW INDUSTRY STANDARDS AT UK AIRPORTS
LONDON, HEATHROW, June 8, 2009
Air Canada customers departing London Heathrow airport can now save even more time when checking in for their flight to Canada by using new state of the art technology that combines convenient kiosk check-in and self-tagging options with simple and efficient bag drop-off at designated counters. Air Canada’s new "Quick Drop-Off" system, currently available at its Toronto and Vancouver hub airports, allows passengers to drop off their bags in less than 30 seconds.
Air Canada is the first carrier to receive official UK Department for Transport approval for combining kiosk self bag-tagging with Quick Drop-Off products. The bag drop-off process, using Brock Solutions’ SmartDrop software, is a secure transaction involving scanning the passenger's boarding pass and each bag tag. The airline has been recognized by the UK Department for Transport as setting industry standards for all UK airports.
"Air Canada has long been at the forefront in using new technologies to simplify travel, and we are pleased that our collaboration with BAA [British Airport Authorities] has resulted in setting new self-service industry standards," said Patrice Ouellette, Director, Customer Service Platform for Air Canada. "Air Canada's initiatives to use the most recent and secure technologies to simplify our customers' travel experience have resulted in less time spent checking in and more time relaxing before a flight. In addition, we are looking forward to further self-service enhancements with the expansion in the near future of our paperless mobile boarding passes for all Air Canada flights departing from the UK."
Mike Brown, COO of Heathrow Airport states: "BAA is committed to creating the world's best passenger experience, and the introduction of innovative technology used by Air Canada in its Quick Drop Off system is central to providing a more efficient check-in process. Currently £4bn is being invested across Heathrow to redevelop and refurbish the airport, with over £130 million being spent at Terminal 3, home to Air Canada, where a complete upgrade of check-in is underway."
"Brock Solutions is pleased to see five years of development come to fruition. The acceptance by the Department for Transport is a milestone that marks another positive step towards IATA's Fast Travel initiative to improve the passenger experience for all travelers," said Mark Stokes, Brock Solutions, Director of Airport IT Projects. "We are proud to have partnered with industry leaders, Air Canada and BAA Heathrow, to implement our Common Use Baggage Drop-Off solution that works in conjunction with the Self Service Baggage Tagging kiosk applications at Heathrow Airport."
Air Canada plans to roll out this integrated self bag-tagging and Quick Drop-Off kiosk service across Canada and the United States following approvals from Transport Canada, and the U.S. TSA.

Chicago, IL - 2009 System Integrator of the Year
Dec 5th, 2008
Brock Solutions was named the 2009 System Integrator of the Year in the >$25 million, category. Winning companies exemplified excellence in the areas of technical expertise, business skills, and customer satisfaction.
Control Engineering Magazine announced today its winners of the 2009 System Integrator of the Year Award. A panel of independent judges selected three automation system integrators in three separate revenue categories, that stand out from the rest—'the cream of the crop'.
With regard to Brock Solutions, judge Lou Zimmer said, "I was impressed by Brock's initial – and continuing – focus on its people and their relationship with their clients. All of Brock's strengths were a function of their employees' skill, experience, and commitment; not company-centric. Especially impressive was its broad scope of tools to support and recognize employees. The strength of their employees' across-the-board competence and their involvement in professional organizations is an underlying message throughout."
Judge Renee Robbins also commented on Brock's strong employee training and support as evidenced by "their mentor program, internal awards program and extensive training." On the technical side, she pointed to Brock's expertise that is "both broad and specific: from the MES installations to panel shop operations". She was also impressed by Brock's list of conveyor projects, including 44 U.S. airport baggage handling systems.
